Brake pads

Brake pads are crucial components in a vehicle's braking system, responsible for creating the friction needed to slow down or stop the vehicle. They are designed to press against brake discs or drums, and as they wear down, they need to be replaced to maintain braking performance and safety.

Brake discs

Brake discs (also known as the rotors) work by creating friction with the help of brake pads to slow down, or stopping the vehicle. When the brake pedel is pressed, the hydraulic pressure forces brake pads to clamp down on the spinning discs. This friction causes the disc and the wheel itself, to slow down or come to a stop.

What to look out for

Signs to look for in bad brake components

Truck Brake Inspection

Indication of bad brake discs

Some signs of a bad brake disc include shaking or vibration when braking, unusual noises like a high pitch squeal or grinding, and longer stopping distances. Visible damage like grooves, cracks or discoloration on the surface of the discs can also indicate to a problem. Additionally, a brake warning light on the dashbord may indicate to a possible rotor issue.
